Every year NHS Grampian Endowments provide funds to local research projects. These funds are for smaller or pilot projects and need to benefit NHS Grampian or its patients.
To ensure NHS Grampian patients and the public have a voice in which projects are funded, we run patient and public review panels.
The panellists review 3 parts of the research applications:
1) project summaries,
2) benefit to the NHS and
3) the section about public involvement and engagement.
They come up with a score for each application. There are also two scientific reviewers, which each come up with a score. These three are then added together to make up the final score. The final decision is then made by the Endowments committee. This year we had 4 sessions in January with 3 members of the public attending each session. This year’s successful projects and project summaries can be found in this document. We can’t wait to hear about the results which will be presented at one of our annual R&D conferences. They normally take place in October and are also open to the public.
