The Oncology research team at NHS Grampian was the first place to have a patient take part in the ADePT-DDR study.
This study is looking at a new medicine for particular types of head and neck cancers. This medicine is created to be taken alongside radiotherapy, which is the standard care for the patients.
For the patients who take part in the study, they are assigned to 1 of 2 groups. One group is given the usual care of radiotherapy only, the other group is given radiotherapy and the study medicine. The researchers want to see if using the study medicine can help patients when taken at the same time as they get radiotherapy. This trial will also try to find out what is the best dose of the new medicine to give patients.
The Chief Investigator Prof Mehanna said: "The team at Aberdeen has shown yet again their leadership in head and neck trials, being the first centre to recruit to ADePT-DDR, which potentially may pave the way to new treatments for an under-served population."
Well done to the oncology team for their hard work and thank you to the patient who decided to take part in research.
