The Cancer Research team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary have been working on the ARC-9 study. They are the only centre in the UK who have managed to recruit participants to this study. They have recruited 2 patients, and both are still on treatment.

The ARC-9 study is an early phase trial looking to alter the tumour ‘microenvironment’ and enable the immune system to improve the response in metastatic colorectal cancer. This is a type of cancer that has spread from its initial location to other parts of the body. Participants will take part in one of two groups which offer different treatment combinations. Some will offer participants the current standard of care as part of the treatment, others will involve new treatments. Dr Les Samuel, who is the oncologist overseeing the study in Aberdeen, says "We are pleased to be taking part in this study, and able to give participants access to new treatment options. This is very much a team effort and I want to say thank you to everyone for their hard work on this project and in particular the participants and research nurses who are involved."
