Ms Elsberger will receive the Hunter Doig Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Ms Elsberger is one of our research active clinical academics and one of the main drivers of research of our award winning breast cancer research unit.
The Hunter Doig medal is awarded every second year to a female Fellow or Member of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. It celebrates the contribution and excellence of women in surgery. The medal is named after two female surgeons: Alice Mabel Headwards Hunter and Caroline Doig. Both achieved what no woman before them had achieved. Hunter was the first woman to become a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1920. Doig became a fellow in 1967. At that time she was 1 of 9 female surgeons in the whole of the UK! She became the first woman to be elected to Council at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Ms Elsberger will receive her medal on 25th April 2025 at the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. You can find out more about the Hunter Doig Medal here: Blog Post: The Hunter Doig Medal - The Women Behind the Award | RCSEd
