At the beginning of the pandemic most medical research stopped. All NHS staff concentrated on the fight of Covid-19 and Covid-19 research was prioritised. This article provides updates on what is happening with Covid-19 research and other research now.
Covid-19 research
There has been lots of research going on to help in the fight against Covid-19. Some are being done locally, but there are others which are asking from volunteers across the UK. Below are ways you can find out more:
- To find out what Covid-19 research is happening in NHS Grampian – head over to our Trials near you page.
- For more information on what is happening across the UK, please see the list of Urgent Public Health Covid-19 studies, reported by NIHR here.
- At the beginning of the pandemic, studies were looking at cures for Covid19. Lately we have seen more vaccine studies. If you would like to volunteer for one you can read about it here.
- Registering with SHARE – a Scottish research register- is another option if you want to take part in research. SHARE is aiding both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 research. Check out our recent post or the SHARE website to find out more
Non-Covid-19 Research re-starting
Although most research (apart from Covid-19 studies) has been paused, this is starting to change slowly. Non-Covid-19 research is gradually restarting once given permission.
NHS Research Scotland (NRS) has set up a survey to find out what the public thinks about re-starting non-Covid19 research studies. The initial results suggest that many people would like for the research to restart. Please HAVE YOUR SAY here.
To see which research studies are currently looking for volunteers in Grampian, please visit our Trials near you pages.
If you are a researcher, who want to resume their non-Covid-19 research can apply for an exemption here.
