Aberdeen is taking part in the E.mbrace Study. This study is researching a new vaccine which hopes to prevent complications of urinary infections in adults aged 60 and over. This research is carried out as a randomised clinical trial, which means participants have an equal chance of being given the vaccine or a placebo. This is done to make sure any results are from the vaccine, and not from something else such as participants thinking they feel better (e.g. placebo effect). More information can be found on the study website E.mbrace Study | A clinical research study (embracevaccinestudy.com)

Aberdeen has recruited 13 patients to this research so far. Karen Norris, a local research nurse involved in the project told us: "This project is an important research study to be involved in. If the vaccines are effective, it could reduce the risks of serious complications from urinary infections and help future patients. We thank all our participants and staff who are involved in this project."
