The ORION 4 study aims to find out if a new medicine safely lowers the risk of heart attacks and strokes in certain people. People who have already had one of these conditions, or who have had an operation or procedure to treat blocked-up arteries can take part.
The study medicine is called inclisiran. It helps to lower bad (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. Doctors hope that giving this injection every six months for several years will lower the number of heart attacks and strokes.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is one of the study centres. More than 200 people from Aberdeen and surroundings are taking part. This is an amazing achievement for our research team: Professor Webster, and the research nurses Kathleen, Yemi and Fiona! Well done everyone!
