SHARE is a national database of people who are happy to be research volunteers within Scotland. Individuals can sign up to be contacted about research projects. They can also choose to donate leftover blood samples from their medical appointments to be used in future research. Over 290,000 people have registered over the whole of Scotland and over 100,000 samples were collected in Grampian and Tayside.

SHARE has recently updated their website, which has a new tool for researchers to see how many people are signed up in the different health boards. When we looked on the 12th of November, SHARE had 43,470 people who had signed from Grampian. These volunteers cover lots of different areas. There are individuals of all ages from young people to people in their 80s and 90s. Some people have health conditions such as Diabetes or Dementia and some have none. Some individuals are taking regular medication such as anti-depressants and some don’t take any medication.

It’s amazing to see the number of people in Grampian who are open to being a part of research!
